Wish’s shipping unification initiative (applicable to select merchants based in Mainland China)
To help Mainland China-based merchants streamline their shipping process, Wish is launching a shipping unification initiative that covers a growing list of destination countries, starting with select countries supported by the Advanced Logistics Program. Note that currently, only a small number of select merchants based in Mainland China and some of their eligible products are participating in the initial launch of this initiative. We will promptly send out notifications as we expand the initiative to more merchants.
This article walks merchants through a number of details around this launch.
Unification initiative overview
In January 2021, Wish will be launching an initiative to unify the shipping process for orders bound for a number of destination countries. Specifically, the following select countries supported by the Advanced Logistics Program are available for merchants to enable and disable together on a product level.
Belgium, France, Germany, Japan, Thailand, Canada, Australia, Austria, Spain, the United States, South Korea, Malaysia, United Kingdom, Italy, and Norway
Once merchants enable these countries together for their products, merchants will soon begin receiving orders from these countries. As another part of the unification effort, the payments received for shipping corresponding orders will be structured differently.
Specifically, to ship to the countries included in the unification initiative, merchants need to first provide the per-country shipping prices for the products. After Wish analyzes the first group of orders received, the initially-set shipping prices will be transitioned to a unified, Wish-calculated First-Mile Shipping Price (see below for more details), applicable to all countries listed above. Merchants have a certain period of time to review this Wish-calculated First-Mile Shipping Price and make changes to it as necessary (see below for more details).
After order fulfillment, merchants will receive payment for shipping structured as:
First-Mile Shipping Price (excluding revenue share) * Quantity + reimbursement for WishPost Shipping, which is the amount merchants paid to WishPost for shipping the order.
Note that even with the new payment structure described above, the final amount merchants receive for shipping will be approximately the same as the amount they would have received given their initially-set shipping price for the products.
The unification effort aims to benefit merchants in several ways. First, merchants will be able to ship to all countries included in the initiative together (starting with high-GMV countries supported by the Advanced Logistics Program), leveraging Wish’s unique logistics setup that helps ship to these countries speedily and at a competitive price. Second, setting the shipping prices for these countries together is now easier and more streamlined, as merchants no longer need to worry about setting different shipping prices for individual countries - the First-Mile Shipping Price will apply to all countries included in the unification initiative enabled for the products. On a related note, merchants no longer need to be concerned about updating per-country shipping prices for promoted products again.
